PLGA Microspheres

Integral BioSystems has niche expertise in the design and development of PLGA microspheres, with >30 years of combined experience. Since its inception, Integral has developed PLGA products containing proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides and small molecules, both ANDA and NCE.

Integral Scientists design and develop the process for encapsulation of molecules in polymeric matrices to achieve sustained release, be it for a weekly, monthly or half-yearly regimen. As polymer and biomaterial scientists, the microencapsulation group has specific expertise for sustained release injectables, be it for subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravitreal administration.

Composition of polymer matrix can be used to control release of a small molecule hydrophobic anti-inflammatory

Selected molecules that have been successfully encapsulated in PLGA microspheres:

GLP-1 to match commercial product Bydureon for an ANDA submission

Risperidone to match commercial product Risperdal Consta
Loteprednol Etabonate

FGF protein
Antimicrobial (undisclosed)
Water/oil/water, or oil/water process based on Class III-classified solvent ethyl acetate (instead of
dichloromethane, which is Class II) is used for the generation of PLGA microspheres. All methods are
developed, qualified and tech-transferred.

o Anti-inflammatory drug, MW 550
o Flow-through in-vitro studies, phosphate buffer, 37°C
